fam jam.

each sunday, with an exception for two of them, for the past four months, with the help of my girlfriend, i have been attending an afternoon program after church. i have fallen in love with it and constantly thinking about. it's an eye opening and eventful program. the program was started by a church i now attend, New Life, and is lead by a great couple, Tim and Ira. It's located in the housing project of Chouteau Courts on Independence Ave, KCMO. The housing project has been standing for 50+ years and is full of good spirits but those who are less fortunate than most.

Fam Jam is held every sunday at 2o'clock. Before 2, the leaders get together in The Center to discuss what games will be played, the bible story that will be presented, pray, and many other things in regard to Fam Jam. After prayer, we allow the kids waiting at the door to come into The Center and check in. They greet us with open arms and wreathed in smiles as they grab colors and a coloring sheet. depending on how many leaders we have, about two-three groups of two go around Chouteau to get the neighboring children ranging from about 2-12. once we have the children settled down after they are done coloring a leader goes over the rules with the help of the children. After the rules are told, Tim stands before the children and preaches the bible story as most sit bearing an open mind, heart, and ears. the rest of the leaders sit amongst the kids to keep them calm and to make sure they are attentive. most of the time i catch myself paying more attention to the story than the children because of my ignorance to the bible (ill explain the later on in the post). the children love to interact throughout the story. their eagerness to answer the questions and learn more is so beautiful and warms my heart.

Ater the bible story, we hand out snacks to be eaten right then and there before we go out and play. usually we play four square, jump rope, draw with chalk, or just sit around and have fun with the children, but lately we have been playing different games. we had a water fight just last week and the week before was "What time is it Mr. Wolf?" with me being Mr. Wolf of course. they love to play around and learn from us. it's really great to see how much they benefit from the leaders being there and teaching them new things that will be essential to their growing hearts and minds.

seeing what they go through and actually knowing from experience is something that moves me. i just want to help them out anyway that i can. i feel for the children, as many do who help out with the program. i really just wish the best for them and that Jesus leads them in the right direction in life. they have touched my heart in a special way. i really wish the best for them and am glad that i can be an adult that they look up to and love. i really look forward to going every sunday. it's come apart of me. i really just wish the children the best and pray for them.

back to my ignorance, i've always had a few questions about the bible. i recently went to my friend Tim F. to get a few of them answered and steered in the right direction. i was greatly satisfied with the conversation and knew where i was headed with the questions. i've been wanting to do it for a while but i just never really brought it to the forefront. living my life through Jesus Christ. living as if he would, getting my knowledge up on the teachings of the bible, and just being a better human overall. i know Fam Jam has really helped me realize it more that i want to do it. it's going to be a long process, but i know i have family and friends to help me when i struggle and He will help me when i go astray.

Peace and Love
