Thanksgiving

Today is the day we recognize what we are thankful for, hence the name of the holiday, Thanksgiving. So, before i go into what i am most thankful for, i would like to take out the time to recognize those who are not so blessed as I am on this holiday.

This is the time of year where you go to a grocery store and pass by the Salvation Army volunteers seeking donations from the passerbys. Then, you may be driving by someone standing on the corner with a sign asking for a lending hand. A little switch goes off in your head once you lay your eyes on this sight. You may give a donation, you may not be able to, or you walk away and think about all that you have and what others don't have. At that moment, you realize how great your life truly is compared to someone who may live five miles away from you. Someone you may interact with on the daily basis. The thought constantly goes through my head constantly as I think about the kids at Fam Jam or as i just surf the internet. I want to be able to help every person in need. I want to do the right thing but sometimes i may not be able to, especially on my own. Im not saying you have to do something about it, I just want you to think at least. There are people right now without heat, without a roof over their heads, without a plate to eat. It's not just on this day, but everyday of their lives. It's going on right in your backyard, it's something that no one should every have to experience and something that pains me on a day like today, mostly when i see someone complaining, much like myself. So as i go on to what I am thankful for, just think about those who aren't and send a prayer that they will be okay throughout today and the days to come. Thank you.

Though I would love to be in New Orleans right now with my mother and family, I am still happy on this day. Now, here is a list of things I am most thankful for, in no particular order:

  • my family
  • my religion
  • my friends who are so influential and knowledgable
  • having all of my needs fulfilled
  • being able to attend Mizzou to try and better my life and those around me.
  • having such a wonderful, beautiful, amazing, selfless girlfriend
  • having her family in my life
  • having two wonderful jobs
  • chance at an internship
  • the ability to help someone
Happy thanksgiving everyone.
